I am a massive James Bond fan. From the films to the books, I found the world of 007 exciting and engaging from the first time I saw Golden Eye at an Elementary School Friend’s birthday party. After my thorough enjoyment of Skyfall, I was really excited for the latest installment of the franchise, Spectre.
On first viewing, I was not sure how I felt about the newest film in the James Bond Series. It seemed to be well shot and had some excellent action scenes, but lacked the punch that Casino Royale or Skyfall had.
After re-watching it 2 more times, my feelings on the film have changed. There are two key things that I really make this a great Bond flick in my opinion.
First, this wraps up (hopefully) a storyline and character that is almost as old as the movie franchise. I am not going to spoil it, but it has a great feeling to get and end to this thread and it is cool to see something from Bond’s past resurrected for another story.
Second, and more important in my opinion, they created a bond (no pun intended) between the new M (played by Ralph Fiennes) and 007. At the start of the film, and also during Skyfall, there is a lack of trust/faith in Bond’s ability and his allegiance. But though the events of Spectre, they develop a stronger level of understanding between the two characters, elevating their relationship to a level shared by the previous M (Judi Dench) and 007.
It is by no means a perfect film, or even my favorite Bond flick, but I did really like it and is worth watching at least once. If nothing else, it has me really excited to see where they take the franchise next!
